Where To Find Tala In NYC

NYCxDESIGN is New York’s annual celebration of all things design, attracting hundreds of thousands of artists, designers and makers from across the globe. Taking place each May (10th-22nd) this event spans New York’s five boroughs and you can find Tala in three of them this year.

Here’s our guide to where to drink, eat, shop and spot Tala during 24 hours in NYC.

9am – Feeling a little jet-lagged or nursing a headache from the previous night’s antics? Members of DUMBO House can enjoy breakfast and get a much-needed caffeine fix overlooking the world-famous Brooklyn Bridge. While you’re there, make sure you visit the House library to see Tala’s special lighting display in honour of NYCxDESIGN.

Address: 55 Water St, Brooklyn

11am – Take a stroll along the waterfront and check out the new West Elm Dumbo store, which also stocks an array of Tala’s best-selling lights. Around the corner is Tala’s US office – pop in to meet the team or schedule a meeting in advance by emailing talanorthamerica@tala.co.uk.

Address: 68 Jay Street, Brooklyn

1pm – Make your way to downtown Manhattan and chow down on some contemporary Chinese cuisine under a cluster of Voronoi’s at Hunan Slurp, the trendiest design-led noodle bar in New York. We’d recommend the Hunan Salad paired with the hot and spicy cucumber and radish dish served with tofu fries.

Address: 112 1st Avenue

2:30pm – For further interior inspiration head to ABC Carpet & Home – No.888 on Broadway followed by Crate & Barrel, a few blocks down through Noho. Finally, if you have time, wander down to Lower Manhattan to Allied Maker, where you can find Tala on display at 81 Franklin St.

5pm – Cocktails are a must in New York and for the perfect aperitif head to the Ludlow Hotel. Opened in 2014, this hotel echoes the colour, history and personality of New York’s Lower East Side. You can also spot Tala lamps in the Apparatus displays that illuminate the interiors.

Address: 180 Ludlow St, New York

7pm – Round-off the day with dinner at the recently opened Misi Restaurant in Williamsburg, where you can dine on the most delicious freshly made pasta under a canopy of Tala lights. We recently interviewed the architect behind this revered dining hotspot – read more here.

Address: 329 Kent Ave, Brooklyn
