Tala Energy Ltd | talalighting.com (US)

Transparency and security are of high importance to us at Tala, and we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, with whom we share it, and the rights you have over your information.

1. Information We Collect

When you browse our website or place an order, we collect the following categories of personal information:

  • Identifiers — your name, email address, postal address, telephone number, IP address, and account username.
  • Commercial information — products purchased, order history, returns, and activity in our Bright Rewards loyalty programme.
  • Internet or electronic network activity — pages visited on our site, search queries, browser type, operating system, and cookie data.
  • Geolocation data — approximate location derived from your IP address, used for shipping, tax calculation, and analytics.
  • Inferences — preferences or interests we infer from your browsing or purchase history for the purposes of personalised recommendations and marketing.
  • Sensitive personal information — account login credentials (username and password). Payment card details are processed directly by our payment processors (Shopify Payments, PayPal, etc.) and are not stored on Tala's systems.

We collect this information directly from you when you create an account, place an order, sign up for marketing, or contact us, and automatically via cookies and similar tracking technologies as described in our Cookie Policy.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use personal information for the following purposes:

  • Processing and fulfilling your orders, including payment processing, shipping, and returns.
  • Managing your customer account and Tala Pro / Tala Professionals access.
  • Providing customer support and resolving disputes.
  • Sending transactional communications (order confirmations, shipping updates).
  • Sending marketing emails and SMS messages, where you have given consent (see Sections 3 and 4).
  • Serving targeted advertising and personalising your experience on our site and on third-party platforms (see Section 5).
  • Analytics — understanding how our site is used so we can improve it.
  • Enforcing our Terms & Conditions and complying with legal obligations.
  • Administering the Bright Rewards loyalty programme (see Section 9).

If we intend to use your information for any purpose not described above, we will request your consent and only proceed once we have received it.

3. Email Marketing

If you have previously opted in to receive emails from Tala, we may send you marketing messages about our products, offers, events, and company news. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the "Unsubscribe" link in any marketing email or by contacting us at hello@talalighting.com.

4. SMS Marketing

You will only be enrolled in SMS marketing after we receive your express written consent. We may occasionally send promotional messages via SMS. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. Standard message and data rates may apply.

5. Advertising, Analytics, and Third-Party Sharing

We work with third-party advertising, analytics, and marketing service providers. In the course of providing these services, we share certain personal information — such as email addresses, browsing activity, and purchase history — with these partners. This may include:

  • Advertising platforms (e.g. Meta/Facebook, Google) to serve you relevant ads and build lookalike audiences.
  • Analytics providers (e.g. Google Analytics) to understand site usage.
  • Email and CRM marketing platforms to manage our communications.
  • Payment processors and fraud prevention services.

Under California law (CCPA/CPRA), sharing personal information with advertising partners for cross-context behavioural advertising may constitute "selling or sharing" personal information, even where no money changes hands. We do not sell personal information for monetary compensation. However, we do share personal information with advertising partners as described above, and California residents (and residents of certain other states) have the right to opt out. See Section 7 (Your US Privacy Rights) for how to exercise this right.

We do not share your personal information with unaffiliated third parties for their own independent marketing purposes without your consent. We require all third-party service providers to process your data only as directed by us and in accordance with applicable privacy law, under written data processing agreements.

We may also disclose your personal information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Tala, our customers, or others.

6. Global Privacy Control (GPC)

We recognise and honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal. If your browser or browser extension has GPC enabled, we will treat this as a valid opt-out of the sale and sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising purposes, as required under California's CPRA and Colorado's CPA. No additional steps are required on your part if you use GPC.

7. Your US Privacy Rights

Depending on the US state in which you reside, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information. California residents have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). Residents of Virginia, Texas, Colorado, Connecticut, and other states with active privacy laws have similar rights under their respective state laws.

Rights Available to You

  • Right to Know / Access: You may request that we disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the purposes for which we use it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
  • Right to Delete: You may request that we delete personal information we have collected about you, subject to certain exceptions (for example, where retention is required to complete a transaction, comply with a legal obligation, or for other permitted purposes).
  • Right to Correct: You may request that we correct inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
  • Right to Data Portability: You may request a copy of your personal information in a portable, machine-readable format.
  • Right to Opt Out of Sale / Sharing: You may direct us not to sell or share your personal information for targeted advertising. You can exercise this right by clicking "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" in the footer of our website, by enabling Global Privacy Control in your browser (see Section 6), or by submitting a request as described below.
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: California residents may direct us to limit our use and disclosure of sensitive personal information (such as account login credentials) to purposes necessary to provide the services you have requested.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not deny you goods or services, charge you a different price, or provide you a different level of quality because you exercised any of the rights described in this section.

How to Submit a Request
You may submit a consumer rights request by:

  • Email: hello@talalighting.com (subject line: "Privacy Rights Request")
  • Post: Tala Energy Ltd, FAO Privacy Compliance Officer, 25B Vyner Street, London E2 9DG

We will verify your identity before processing your request. Verification may require you to confirm information we already hold about you (such as your order email address). We will respond to verifiable requests within 45 days of receipt. If we require additional time (up to a further 45 days), we will notify you of the reason and the extension period. We will not charge a fee for processing your request unless it is excessive, repetitive, or manifestly unfounded.

Opt-Out Response Time
For requests to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, we will action your request within 15 business days.

Authorised Agents
California residents may designate an authorised agent to make a request on their behalf. We may require written proof of the agent's authority and may verify your identity directly.

Appeals
If we decline to take action on your request, we will inform you of the reason. You may appeal our decision by contacting us at hello@talalighting.com with the subject line "Privacy Rights Appeal" within 30 days of receiving our decision. We will respond to your appeal within 60 days and inform you of any action taken or the reason for declining. If your appeal is denied, you may have the right to submit a complaint to your state's Attorney General. For California residents, complaints may be submitted to the California Privacy Protection Agency at cppa.ca.gov.

8. Sensitive Personal Information

Under CCPA/CPRA, certain categories of personal information are classified as "sensitive personal information" (SPI). We collect the following SPI:

  • Account login credentials (username and password for your Tala account).

We use account credentials solely to authenticate your account and provide our services. We do not use account credentials for advertising or profiling purposes. California residents may request that we limit our use of SPI to these necessary purposes by submitting a request as described in Section 7.

Payment card data is processed directly by our payment processors (Shopify Payments, PayPal, and other processors listed at checkout) and is subject to their privacy policies. Tala does not store full payment card numbers on its systems.

9. Bright Rewards — Financial Incentive Notice

We offer the Bright Rewards loyalty programme, through which customers earn points and receive benefits in exchange for purchases and engagement activities. Participation in Bright Rewards involves the collection and use of personal information, including your name, email address, and purchase history.

California law requires us to disclose the material terms of financial incentive programmes that involve personal information. The benefit we offer (loyalty points redeemable for discounts) is reasonably related to the value of the personal information we collect, which enables us to provide personalised communications and understand customer preferences. Participation is entirely voluntary. You may opt in by enrolling at talalighting.com/pages/rewards and may withdraw at any time by contacting us at hello@talalighting.com. Withdrawal will not affect any points already earned.

10. Consent

When you provide us with personal information to complete a transaction, verify your payment method, place an order, arrange delivery, or return a purchase, we collect and use that information for that specific purpose. Where we process your information for secondary purposes such as marketing, we will seek your express consent or provide you with a clear opportunity to opt out.

Withdrawing consent
You may withdraw your consent for us to contact you, or for the continued collection, use, or disclosure of your information, at any time by contacting us at hello@talalighting.com or by post at: Tala Energy Ltd, FAO Privacy Compliance Officer, 25B Vyner Street, London E2 9DG.

  • Marketing data (email and SMS preferences) is retained until you opt out or unsubscribe, or for 3 years following your last interaction with us, whichever is earlier.
