Biophilic Design At Tala Studios

Biophilic Design At Tala Studios

When moving to a new office and showroom space in 2018, we drew on Biophilic Design principles to bring our working environment to life.

Almost four years to the day we made a short trip up the road from our office in London Fields to Vyner Street, the location for a new headquarters: Tala Studios.

With a blank canvas to work with, the team sought to incorporate Biophilic Design principles into every area of the studio – from workspaces and communal breakout areas, to the main showroom.

Drawing inspiration from nature was, and has been, a key design feature of Tala products, so it was an obvious decision to extend it to our working environment.

Working environments with natural elements such as natural light and greenery have shown to increased staff wellbeing by 15%, productivity by 6% and creativity by 15%.

With this in mind, in 2019 we built a custom plant system to sit between the heating and cooling systems and our vaulted ceiling spaces, giving us a living, breathing air filter, which improves concentration levels and decreases mental fatigue.

Surrounded by potted plants of all shapes and sizes, both inside the studio and on our canal-side balcony, the greenery offers our staff a clean and beautiful place to spend their days, while accentuating our showpiece lighting displays.

The lighting in the studio is connected to a central dimming system that allows us to get the best of our Dim to Warm technology, thus mimicking natural light sources and improving our staff’s overall cognitive functioning.
