Lights Off: A Lighting Guide For Spring
As the days grow longer and we return to spending more time outside, our relationship to light becomes more nuanced. Naturally, we at Tala spend a lot of time thinking about light and its impact during the seasons. Let us impart our guidance on how best to light your home this Spring.
Maximise Daylight
The science is well-established: exposing yourself to plenty of natural light throughout the day can improve both your mental and physical wellbeing. Make sure to open the curtains wide and go for a morning walk before you can consider your light scheme for the day.
Accent Lighting
Supplement the natural light in your space with low-level accent lighting to create a range of moods and atmospheres. Whether you’re working from your home office or relaxing after a hard day’s work, light can help to augment your productivity or get you ready to switch off from the day’s stresses.
Table and Floor Lamps are the obvious candidates, but expertly placed Wall Lights or Single Pendants can also help you create a vibe without draining energy.
Dim Down
We spend a lot of time thinking about dimming. The ability to control the amount of light, and the colour temperature of the light, is vital when creating an inviting and comfortable environment. If your space is short on natural light, consider mimicking daylight by maintaining a cool colour temperature throughout the day using the ‘big light’ before turning to accent lighting toward the end of the day to help your body release serotonin and get you ready for a good night’s sleep.
If you haven’t already, we also recommend investing in a good dimming system to help you get the best out of your Tala lights. See our list of recommended dimmers here.
Turn Off
Based on our photo tags on Instagram, we know that our lights are just as popular when turned off as they are turned on. The sculptural shapes and geometric forms allow customers to enjoy them as pieces of art or as decoration.
Voronoi bulbs are particular favourites, but the Echo range is also a popular series for creating a statement piece while saving on energy.
Outdoor Living
Since introducing The Muse Portable Lamp to our collection in September 2021, we have seen the impact that good quality light can have in outside spaces. For eating dinner in the garden or enjoying a late-night glass of wine, consider The Muse as a way of bringing the inside – out.
